The Life Remodeled Community Advisory Council (LRCAC) Memorial Service was an intimate, socially-distanced event held this past Sunday, August 30 to honor the lives of Life Remodeled community residents. Following the model of the City of Detroit’s memorial service, the LRCAC felt that Life Remodeled and its surrounding community should hold a memorial service to honor residents who may not have been able to attend the city-wide event.
Chris Lambert, Life Remodeled CEO, opened the service with remarks from Psalm 23:4. He spoke about the bible scripture in relation to the Life Remodeled community comforting each other during these turbulent times and building each other up and supporting each other now more than ever. He mentioned Life Remodeled’s efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic including fresh food distribution, mask and gift card giveaway, and the upcoming distance learning space at the DIS designed to increase virtual learning access for students in our community. Chris ended by extending condolences to the families in the Life Remodeled community and Detroit who have been impacted by Covid-19.
Dwan Dandrige, Life Remodeled’s Vice President, prayed over the lives of the loved ones and held a moment of silence. Each resident was given a balloon to represent a lost loved one. Some residents stated who their balloon represented and at the end of the ceremony, each resident released their balloons into the air, followed by a bunch of balloons to represent all the other lives lost due to Covid-19.
Community residents gathered safely by wearing masks, practicing socially distancing, and utilizing the self sanitizing station at check-in. This was a meaningful way for the community and Life Remodeled to connect during this difficult time. The residents of the community showed great appreciation for the service, and one resident even brought a picture of her loved one to share with those in attendance. We are so thankful to our community for being the reason for the work we do at Life Remodeled, and we were thankful for the partnership we shared on this somber occasion.
